The
“Spirit” of Phillipston can not be portrayed in pictures. It’s
not the beauty of her rocks and trees, the peacefulness of the lakes
and streams, the unspoiled rural countryside, or the purity of the air
that creates “spirit.”It’s the personality of her people, past and
present, that made her the town she is.And, as readers look at the
pictures and read the stories, this “spirit” will be revealed.

For three years, authors and Society members Carole Gariepy and Jane
French diligently interviewed residents and researched archives,
unearthing the stories and photographs they present in this
comprehensive history of the town of Phillipston. Where photographs
were not available, they called upon Society member and illustrator
Joan Johnson for her help.
In 2007 The Society published the book with help from a grant awarded to the Society by the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.
